Zoumboulakis Gallery presents Georgia Fambris’s new solo exhibition “…And we are magic talking to itself, noisy and alone…”, opening on October 12, 2023.
Painting and woven works of variable dimensions will be presented.
As Theofilos Tramboulis, curator and writer, notes “Why in almost all of Georgia Fambris’s works do colorful, fragmented bodies of overt and impetuous femininity gather, condense into solid volumes, into psychically charged cubist studies of limbs, breasts, of fleeting signs of desire and repression? In her new exhibition titled “… And we are magic talking to itself, noisy and alone…” Fambris returns to the basic elements of her painting language, such as frontal composition, vertical light, multi-faceted fragmentary episodes structured around a central figure, expanding her artistic method to new resources, such as weaving.”
The title of the exhibition is taken from Anne Sexton’s poem, “You, Doctor Martin” and refers to this dual living experience of femininity as magic and lonely noise, of pleasure as existential burden. The psychiatrist Doctor Martin to whom the poem is addressed becomes here, in a playful and often sarcastic way, the gaze of the spectator who dissolves and reassembles bodies and their desires.”
