Io Angeli presents a series of artworks in her solo exhibition, focusing on boundaries.
A topography of often subtle and unseen boundaries composes a new scenery that results from the interlacing notions of “define and confine”.
The artist’s work refers to a mapping of signs on the ground, buoys on the water and tents in residential areas. Barriers placed as threads introduce the symbolism of the cage as the basic notion of limitation. The different levels of the landscape indicate the transition from inhabited to vacant, from fertile to barren, from personal to public.

She holds a B.A. in Painting from The Athens School of Fine Arts (1981-86) and, after getting a scholarship from the State Scholarship Foundation-IKY, she continued with an M.Phil. at The Royal College of Art in London (1988-90). Since 1988 up until today she has collaborated with the galleries Ora, Creonidis, Zina Athanasiadou and the Athens Art Gallery. She has taken part in many group exhibitions in Greece and also abroad. Some of her works are exhibited in famous private and public galleries. The central point of her paintings is the exploration of the fluidity of space. Transparent and paradoxical landscapes reveal the melancholy of the cityscape, the blistering perspective of the closed room or the enormous brightness of nature, synthesizing the country in which the body resides.
